A massive wildfire is burning across large areas of the Everglades in Florida. According to reports, it started Thursday and had spread to more than 7 hectares by Sunday.
Named L-30 by forestry authorities, the fire was located in an area of the Everglades west of US-27 and Pines Boulevard.
So far, the brigades have managed to contain 65% of the fire, according to reports 51 TelemundoHowever, the ashfall throughout the area affects air quality. The smoke also causes discomfort to residents living near the fire.
Foresters reported that the blaze moved north from Krome Avenue in Miami-Dade County. It then moved toward Broward County. However, the fire is not considered a threat to nearby communities as it is contained within an area surrounded by water.
Extreme vigilance due to the risk of the fire gaining strength
Florida Forest Service rangers are monitoring the wind and other aspects of this fire to keep it under control. Light rain on Saturday helped somewhat dampen the flames, but low humidity and strong winds remain, posing risks.
Residents of Pembroke Pines and Miramar should protect themselves from ash and smoke. They are advised to stay outdoors and keep windows closed.
