LMD Credentials in Cuba: Where do they go and what does the Spanish Consulate in Havana say?

LMD credentials are an important step for those citizens who wish to obtain Spanish nationality through the Democratic Memory Law in Cuba.

The distribution of these credentials and the scheduling of appointments generates many questions and dissatisfaction among applicants. Based on the testimonies of users on social media and official instructions from the Spanish Consulate General, it is possible to understand what happens with the dates and why some descendants receive their credentials before others.

How are dates assigned for credentials?

According to the Spanish Consulate in Cuba, there is a clear system for assigning LMD credentials: the credentials are sent in chronological order, meaning that people who applied first should be given priority for appointments.

However, according to user feedback on various platforms, the scheduling process is very slow and even messy.

Some mention that the credentials of the February 7 have already been submitted, while others who submitted their applications in December are still waiting.

The Cuban consulate explains in the automatic emails it sends to applicants that delays are inevitable due to the high demand y limited human resources available to process applications.

What should you do if you haven't received your credentials, according to the Spanish Consulate in Havana?

The Consulate warns that Do not send other emails with the same data and documents.. This is because, by doing so, they generate collapses in the system, which causes further delays in processing applications.

Before resubmitting your request, please check the following points, as they are the source of many problems when receiving credentials:

  • Verify that you have attached all the requested documents on our website. Be sure to include all required documents.

  • Verify that the data in the body of the email is written correctly., without errors, in capital letters, without accents (except in the email) and following the exact order in which we requested it.

Remember that if your email doesn't follow these guidelines, it may be discarded. For this reason, we strongly urge you to review each and every one of the points mentioned before forwarding a new email.

Testimonies of descendants in Cuba and Miami

Based on user comments on social media, a clear trend can be seen regarding the dates of credentials. For example, dates such as the 7 and 10 for February as the most recent to receive their credentials, while there are some applicants for December who have not yet received them.

In the case of the Spanish Consulate in Miami, other users report that "it's taking almost three months." "They're currently reaching the people who sent the PDF at the end of October," they wrote in Facebook groups about immigration procedures for Spain.

  1. THE CONCERN OF THE ENTIRE POPULATION IS INCREDIBLE. THEY HAVE TO GIVE SOME ANSWER BY SOME MEANS. IT'S PITCHING TO READ EVERYTHING THEY WRITE ON THESE PAGES. PLEASE, I HOPE SOMEONE HAS SOMETHING OF SHAME AND FOR GOD'S SAKE. IT'S INCREDIBLE.

  2. The credentials that I sent to my granddaughter in PDF format on February 29, 2024, have not arrived.
She has the acknowledgment of receipt.
Her mother received them on February 23rd and her sister on February 28th.
What can be done in this case? Today, March 14th 2025.

  3. What's happening now (March) 2025) in Cuba with the credentials for LMD is sad and regrettable. More than 500 people who sent their PDF in February 2024 with the objective of receiving the credentials have not received them, and despite writing to the consulate, they have not received a response or a solution.
