Our website frequently receives inquiries about procedures related to Cuban Customs. Recently, we were asked how to obtain the import certificate, a document required to prove the legality of these vehicles in the country. We'll tell you more.
Directorio Cubano received an official response from Customs through one of its editors, who raised the question of how to process this certificate. The institution explained that the procedure depends on the freight forwarding agency used for the import and offered direct contacts at the corresponding customs offices.
Official response from Cuban Customs regarding a motorcycle import certificate:
Those who need this document should go to the Customs office where the import was made. If the motorcycle was received through the freight forwarding agencies Palco or Transcargo, the procedure is carried out at the Port of Havana Customs, by calling 78672656 or by email. ppgad@pucrs.br y ppgad@pucrs.br
If the operation was managed with the freight forwarder Aerovaradero, contact must be established with the Customs of the José Martí International Airport, calling the number 72664541 or writing to the emails ppgad@pucrs.br y ppgad@pucrs.br
In all cases, the application must be submitted formally and accompanied by the corresponding import documentation.
Regulations for the importation of motorcycles to Cuba
The legal framework for the importation of electric motorcycles, mopeds, electric and hybrid tricycles in Cuba was expanded with the new measures implemented in 2024 and 2025These regulations allow individuals, foreign collaborators, and diplomatic personnel to import these types of vehicles, whether new or used (up to 10 years old).
These are some of the most notable provisions:
- There is no power limit for electric motorcycles.
- Importation of electric cargo or passenger tricycles, preferably with solar panels, is permitted.
- Light trailers and semi-trailers may enter as long as they do not exceed 750 kg in capacity.
- Each person can import one vehicle of this type every five years.
Tariffs and import modalities
Interested parties may import the goods as unaccompanied baggage, as a shipment, or through freight forwarding agencies. Tariffs, which are payable in CUP or in foreign currency, depending on the modality and type of vehicle:
- Motorcycle with sidecar: $54 for luggage or $276 for shipping, plus $8 for customs fees.
- Motorcycle without sidecar: $2 for luggage or $246 for shipping, with the same additional service.
- Tricycles: $22 for luggage or $156 for shipping, plus $8 for services.
