Blackouts in Cuba: Guiteras will leave after Felton's arrival

It has already been reported that blackouts will continue in Cuba. Now, the state press confirms that when the Felton enters service, the Guiteras will depart.

This is stated in a note published by radio 26 from Matanzas. The news system's journalist, Lázaro Manuel Alonso, had already announced this a few days ago.

In its text, the local radio station explains to residents of Matanzas that "the shutdown of blocks 1 and 2 of the Lidio Ramón Pérez (Felton) thermoelectric plant in Holguín, further aggravates the situation."

Felton is the most powerful thermoelectric plant in Cuba and must be out of service for 10 days, "starting this Wednesday," they indicate.

But when the Holguín CTE returns, the blackouts in Cuba will not end.

BLACKOUTS IN CUBA: THE GUITERAS WILL COME OUT

According to the information provided, after the problem at Felton was resolved, the "Antonio Guiteras plant in Matanzas will be shut down due to technical problems with its boiler (pitera). These operations must be extended to three days."

According to the state media, "the shutdown of important electricity-generating industries due to breakdowns or maintenance are the main causes of the complex situation in Cuba."

Miguel Díaz-Canel, however, did referencia also this Tuesday to the “fuel deficit for distributed generation.”

He also justified "the maintenance being carried out" because it will allow us to "enter the summer in a better situation."

According to the Cuban Electric Union (UNE), service was disrupted throughout the day on Wednesday. "The maximum impact was 683 MW at 21:00 p.m. Service was restored at 02:13 a.m. today," they announced on their official Facebook page.

They warn that for this Thursday, June 16, "peak availability is estimated at 2 MW and peak demand at 478 MW. The deficit will be 2 MW."
