New year, same problems: Cubans' nightmare of obtaining Spanish nationality continues.

Cubans waiting for credentials to submit their Spanish nationality applications, especially those of Spanish descent, face severe delays.

This situation has intensified in recent months, causing despair and frustration among applicants, who have been waiting for a response for more than 11 months.

Through social networks, users like @CubaSaily have expressed their concern.cupaction for the delay, highlighting that the last credentials sent were in January 2024. Since then, people aspiring to obtain their Spanish citizenship have not received any news.

In a message shared by this Twitter account, the Spanish Consulate General in Havana explained that the high number of applicants has caused a significant delay in issuing credentials, indicating that this process could take up to 10 months. According to the official response, "possession of credentials only guarantees the possibility of booking an appointment among those available at that time."

The situation is further aggravated by the lack of communication from the Consulate. Many applicants have reported that when they try to inquire about the status of their applications, they receive no response.

David Casarejos, president of the Civil Rights and Participation Commission of the General Council of Spanish Citizens Abroad, criticized the consulates' lack of empathy in the face of the pressure and stress faced by applicants.

In addition, other users such as @RossanaPescoso and @felipedB43 have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Consulate's management, accusing it of abusive sales of credentials and slow document processing.

With the new year approaching, applicants fear the wait could be even longer, increasing the frustration of those who, by right, hope to obtain Spanish nationality. In the case of the appointment at the LMD center, although some slots are available for January, they cannot be accessed without the necessary credentials, further prolonging the process.

This situation makes it clear that, despite the high demand for applications, the Havana Consulate faces serious difficulties in managing the procedures efficiently.
