Breaking News: Union Electrica briefing on complex energy landscape

Energy crisis in Cuba: maximum impact approaches 2000 MW.

The Electric Union (UNE) reported that the national electricity system remains under severe strain, with availability far below expected demand. The maximum impact for Tuesday night could reach 1976 MW.

New losses in generation

According to UNEIn addition to the outages at several thermal power plants, Energás Jaruco lost 150 MW due to a gas valve failure. This situation increased yesterday's impact to 1961 MW during peak consumption hours, exceeding the initial forecast of 1890 MW.

In total, seven thermoelectric units remained out of service, including the three at the Rente plant in Santiago de Cuba.

Limited generation and insufficient solar parks

In addition to the fuel and lubricant shortages that are keeping 44 distributed generation plants paralyzed (with 703 MW unavailable), there are also problems at thermal plants.

The 28 photovoltaic parks managed to inject 2753 MWh into the system during the lunes, with a maximum of 556 MW during the average time slot. However, this contribution fails to offset the accumulated deficit.

Forecast for this Tuesday

This morning, availability was barely 1669 MW compared to a demand of 3070 MW, resulting in a disruption of 1417 MW. By midday, the disruption will remain around 1400 MW.

The situation will worsen at night, when peak demand could rise to 3750 MW. UNE It is estimated that generation will reach 1844 MW, which would cause a deficit of 1906 MW and a maximum impact of 1976 MW.

“The deficit is close to 2000 MW”

Journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso highlighted on social media that "units out due to breakdowns or maintenance, as well as the lack of fuel and lubricants for distributed generation, have increased the generation deficit to nearly 2 MW this Tuesday."

The outlook confirms that September is starting with increasing blackouts and an electrical system unable to meet the country's needs.

  1. It's better if they give me the Megawatts through the ration book, so maybe I can get the ones they didn't give me last week. I'm sure the Grocer will start his racket right away, selling Megawatts that he ripped off from other consumers.

  2. I really don't see any solution to the problems and needs that exist in this country and the saddest thing is that life is only one. We are turned off on the outside but also on the inside. Living in this country is a total blackout.

  3. THAT THEY HAVE JUST ADMITTED THAT THE ENERGY SITUATION THAT CUBA PRESENTS IS THE ICEBERG THAT WILL COME TO THEM UNTIL THE INEXORABLE AND INEBITABLE COLLAPSE OF A FAILED POLITICAL SYSTEM

  4. but it doesn't stop, while solar parks are being built, while more maintenance is done on thermoelectric plants in due time, the deficit doesn't go down, it keeps rising... what explanation is there for that? It was supposed to give us a break from the blackouts during the days of high solar intensity... and that's not the case...

  5. Well, when it comes to electricity in Cuba, nothing surprises me anymore. Nothing keeps me up at night. I've gotten used to not having electricity.

  6. It is abusive, unbearable, and disrespectful to the quality of life. They cut off power in Santo Suárez from 9 pm to 7 am on the first day of the school year. How long are we going to put up with these cuts? Fix the goods for Cuban citizens and stop building hotels for tourists.
