Cuban invents "fan for blackouts" and goes viral (VIDEO HERE)

A Cuban claims to have invented a fan to help children sleep when there's a power outage.

Blackouts continue in Cuba, and far from easing, they appear to be increasing in frequency and duration. Although the government has assured that it is working to prevent outages during July and August, it seems quite likely that the situation will continue into the warmer months.

While the majority laments, a few “laugh at their own misfortune,” a sort of national sport that distinguishes us.

A Cuban man has gone viral on social media after posting his invention for a fan during power outages on Facebook. The rustic device works with a propeller attached to a bicycle's sprockets.

Tip: Here's how you can buy battery-powered fans to remedy the blackouts in Cuba.

The video shows two minors taking a nap while their adult relatives rotate the bicycle pedals, causing the blades of the rustic fan to spin.

  1. In the 1980s, very few people had fans. We're several siblings, and I remember my father taking a piece of Russian cardboard and fanning it for hours so we could sleep. I also did this for my children, and every time I did, my eyes watered from my parents' deep love for us.

  2. Although it's a father's effort to help his children (I went through it too), it's regrettable that this is still being seen and happening in Cuba today. Allowing this to happen is deplorable, and every Cuban who remains silent is complicit in this system of tyrants and dictators. It's regrettable that members of the Council of State don't have to endure such hardships.
