Thousands of Cubans travel between the U.S. and Cuba each year. The airlines preferred by Cubans who frequently travel to the island are American Airlines and JetBlue.
American Airlines
American Airlines is the most prestigious airline. Its top-quality service and baggage policy have made it a favorite among Cubans for their travels.
Weight and size of luggage allowed:
Baggage size limits are calculated by adding the total external dimensions of each piece (length + height + width).

For a one-way trip to Cuba:
The applicable first-piece baggage rate applies to trips originating in the U.S. or Canada and destined for Cuba.
Roundtrip travel from the U.S. to Cuba:
- First and second piece baggage rates apply to Cuba.
- Free first and second bag fees on return flights to the U.S.
One-way trip from Cuba:
The first and second standard-sized suitcase are free.
Roundtrip travel from Cuba to the U.S.:
- The first and second standard-sized suitcase are free.
- Baggage fees apply to the first and second standard-sized piece of luggage when returning to Cuba.
The baggage fees are:
30 USD - Suitcase 1
40/70 USD - Suitcase 2
150- USD Suitcase 3
200 USD - Suitcase 4 and more

Jetblue Airways is a low-cost airline. It has operations in Cuban airports of Havana, Casa Particular in Camaguey, Holguin y Casa Particular in Santa Clara.
JetBlue accepts pets (small dogs and cats) for transportation to and from Cuba. However, they must be accompanied by an official certification issued by a veterinarian. They must also be medically inspected before travel.
Offers fare options that include different amounts of checked baggage. Checked bags exceeding 62 inches (157.48 cm) in total dimensions (length + width + height), including wheels/handles, or weighing more than 50 pounds (22.68 kg), will incur a fee. Baggage fees apply per one-way flight.
Baggage policy for Cuba:
This airline does not accept plastic boxes/containers on international flights, with a single exception on flights to/from Cuba.
Each passenger may check in a total of five (5) suitcases or plastic boxes/containers. During the winter season, which is the peak tourist season and when demand for the company's service increases (between November 16 and January 15), customers may not check in more than three (3) suitcases and may not check in any plastic boxes/containers.
Each plastic suitcase/box/container must not exceed 80 inches (203.2 centimeters) in total dimensions (length + width + height). It may not exceed 99 pounds (44.9 kilograms). Cardboard boxes must have their factory seal.
Suitcases/boxes/plastic containers up to 50 pounds (22.73 kilos) or 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) will be accepted. Overweight and/or oversize charges will apply.
Each passenger is allowed to bring one personal item (wallet, briefcase, laptop, etc.) on board, plus one carry-on bag. Carry-on bags must not exceed 22″ long (55.88 cm) x 14″ wide (35.56 cm) x 9″ high (22.86 cm).
Neither JetBlue nor American Airlines transport gas stoves to Cuba.
