The defense, led by lawyer Adolfo Gil, insisted that their client is innocent and the victim of a misinterpretation of his artistic publications.

The singer's mother and sister, residents of Spain and Tampa respectively, asked for mercy and psychological treatment for the artist, who has admitted to addiction problems.

Justice Milton Hirsch rejected the free speech argument, asserting that Chocolate MC's posts constitute "real threats" and are therefore not protected by the First Amendment.

The singer, a controversial figure in the Cuban urban music genre, faces a sentence that could include life imprisonment.
