Cuba's Minister of Transportation reported on the restoration of several passenger transportation services on the island after Hurricane Melissa. After several days of intense work, the authorities have made progress in the recupImprovement of road, rail, air and sea infrastructure, with the aim of ensuring safe mobility in the most impacted provinces and offering immediate solutions to affected travelers.
Thanks to progress in repairing the railway infrastructure, national and interprovincial trains to and from Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba have been restored, in addition to the already operating Havana–Holguín and Holguín–Havana services. However, the Havana–Bayamo–Manzanillo train remains suspended due to ongoing track work.
To mitigate this impact, two extra trains will run: one on December 4 from Havana to Guantánamo and another on December 6 in the opposite direction.
Departures will continue on their regular schedules. Passengers with reservations who do not wish to travel will receive a 100% refund of their ticket price within 15 days of service resumption.
Cubana de Aviación adjusted its route schedule due to increased frequencies. Flights from Havana to Holguín and Santiago de Cuba were reinforced, as were connections from these provinces to the capital.
Passengers affected by itinerary changes can request refunds or rescheduling depending on availability.
After the temporary suspension of 322 services for more than 10 days, all national buses are now operating normally in Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Guantánamo, Las Tunas, Holguín, and Camagüey. More than 8,300 passengers were transported following the phased resumption of service.
Navigation between Nueva Gerona, Batabanó and Cayo Largo del Sur has remained stable, although the current vessel's capacity does not cover the total demand.
The ferry Perseverance It continues to undergo repairs at the CDC Shipyards, while the catamaran Las Casas River Maintenance work is progressing in Girona. Both ships must be back in service before the end of the month, according to the Minister.
