German Embassy announces good news for Cubans: more opportunities starting in December. More details to follow. The German Embassy in Cuba announced news that marks an important step forward in the island's international connectivity: starting December 2nd 2025 Direct flights between Havana and Frankfurt will begin, operated by the state airline Cubana de Aviación.
In a recent publication, the diplomatic mission celebrated the opening of this route as “a significant step in bilateral cooperation and in strengthening ties between both countries.”
The new connection will allow Cubans and European travelers to travel nonstop between Cuba and Germany, something that has not happened for more than two decades.
The German Embassy highlighted that the restoration of the route represents an opportunity for both Cuban citizens and the island's tourism and economic sector.
The Havana–Frankfurt flight will be operated by an Airbus A330-200, leased from the Spanish airline Plus Ultra, with a capacity for 287 passengers, offering greater comfort and frequency for travelers.
Cuban Transport Minister Eduardo Rodríguez also celebrated the announcement, stating that “this new connection boosts the recup"development of the tourism industry and strengthens air cooperation with Europe."
The Cuban government believes that opening this route can directly benefit thousands of Cubans who travel for family, work, or study reasons, as well as those who reside in Europe and maintain ties with the island.
According to data compiled by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), it was estimated that there were approximately 14,576 Cubans residing in Germany.
Furthermore, the German embassy reminded Cubans that they need a visa to travel to Germany, and urged those interested to inquire about the types of visas available and the necessary conditions for applying for them at the consular headquarters in Havana.
