They have officially requested that Argentine President Javier Milei allow Cubans to travel to Argentina with only their passports without a visa (visa-free) as a response to "political aid." More details will follow immediately.
The Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL) sent a letter to Argentine President Javier Milei requesting that the visa requirement for Cuban citizens wishing to enter Argentina be eliminated.
The letter, signed by Gabriel C. Salvia, Attorney and General Director of CADAL, maintains that "for more than six decades, the Cuban regime has maintained an authoritarian system that severely restricts fundamental freedoms."
According to Salvia, Cubans live in a state of "physical and mental confinement" as a result of political repression, censorship, and state control over their lives.
In this context, CADAL suggests that Argentina could send a clear message in defense of freedom if the visa was eliminated as an entry requirement for citizens of the island.
"The imposition of visa requirements by democratic countries like Argentina represents, albeit unintentionally, an additional obstacle for those seeking an escape route or an opportunity to rebuild their lives outside of totalitarianism," the letter to Milei states.
Visa-free travel for Cubans to Argentina coming soon? What can Milei do?
Furthermore, the organization appeals to a recent quote from the Argentine president: “The most important vote of all is the one cast with your feet.”Under this premise, they are asking that Cubans be offered the opportunity to choose a "free" future in Argentina, giving them the option of visa-free travel.
If this measure is approved, Argentina would join other countries that have eased the entry of Cuban citizens, albeit with different perspectives, as Nicaragua did during the 2021 crisis.
To approve visa-free travel for Cubans to Argentina, Javier Milei would have to go through a series of administrative and diplomatic steps, but as head of state and leader of the Executive Branch, he has considerable leeway to push through the measure if he so desires.

Hopefully, Milei has a genuine intention of making that gesture to the Cubans.
I would leave without thinking twice.
